Keep Our Campfires Glowing

Campers, families, guests, and friends—we miss you, we are praying for you, and we can’t wait until our camps are back open and we can see you again!

A time at camp would not be complete without a campfire—a time to gather and center with camp friends around a warm, glowing fire at the end of our day, to sing together, to be inspired, to worship, reflect and pray, to leave feeling changed, knowing that God is real and is present. For generations of Dakotans and Minnesotans, it was around a campfire when God ignited a spark in their hearts.  Lives are changed forever at camp, and for many the change started around the campfire.

During times like these, now more than ever, our world needs camp. We seek desperately the sacred and safe spaces, set apart from the world, where we experience Christ, Creation, and Community in the meaningful and impactful ways only camp can provide. We want to gather around the glowing campfire at the end of a fun day, to be still, and to know that God is here.

We are asking for your help

The campfires at your Dakotas and Minnesota camps are not glowing as brightly this summer and we need your financial help to rekindle the fire. As you know, the summer operations at your resident camps were suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. While suspension of our 2020 camps has been the right decision, our sites are struggling financially with the loss of ministry this spring and summer. Each campsite’s operational costs are funded nearly 100 percent by camper and guest group fees. The loss of revenue this summer has significantly impacted the financial health and the ability of your camps to do ministry.

Now is the time for you to help keep these fires glowing.

We need your help to ensure our campfires stay glowing now and for generations to come. Please consider a financial gift to your Dakotas and Minnesota United Methodist Camp and Retreat Ministries. We are thankful for the support of our Annual Conferences, generous donors, and camper families who have supported your camps already during this season. But even with this support, your camps still need you. A gift to the camping program will help ensure the camping experience for campers next year and years that follow.

Perhaps you might consider using the funds you had already budgeted to send your family to camp as your gift during this time? Or consider giving at a level that supports things like:

  • $50/week for s’mores at camp
  • $300/week average summer staff salary
  • $750/week to help purchase programming supplies for campers.

Thank you for your love and support of your camping ministries!
